  • Overview

    The Senior Director, Development & Strategy will serve as part the leadership team for the Partnership Marketing department, focused on all partnership sales-related functions for the Memphis Grizzlies and associated properties, including FedExForum, Grind City Media, Memphis Hustle (G League), and Grizz Gaming (NBA 2K League).


    This individual will lead a team of marketing partnership development professionals, overseeing the sales process from beginning to end and driving results against the revenue goals set by the organization. The Senior Director will also contribute to overall revenue strategies for the department and lead the process of creating engaging, multichannel platforms to take to market.


    • Lead the team responsible for developing marketing partnerships for the Memphis Grizzlies and associated properties.
    • Serve as leader and mentor for the partnership development and sales team, including creating targeted individual professional growth plans and managing all phases of the business development process (identification, research, outreach, qualification, discovery, ideation, proposal, negotiation, closing, execution, activation, measurement, and renewal) as a team leader.
    • Assist developers in the pitch process by helping to build the partnership business case for new prospects and current partners. This includes leading and/or participating as appropriate in presentation building/scripting, proposal writing, and at the pitch itself.
    • Assist in the creation and deployment of departmental revenue strategies, including category attack, content development & monetization, regional & international approach, media deals, etc.
    • Lead the development of partnership platforms through collaboration with marketing, digital, social, broadcast, content, community engagement, game presentation, regional marketing and live events, arena operations, ticket sales and service, and other departments as appropriate for use in proposals, pitches, and contracts.
    • Lead the process for creating multi-channel campaigns to monetize key organizational moments and prized inventory, refining existing opportunities and uncovering new potential inventory. Assist in creating strategic plans for maximizing open and emerging business categories.
    • Collaborate with partnership developers to assist in the ideation, discovery and conception process for clients/prospects including attending and contributing to discovery and concept-sharing meetings, writing and sharing of strategic briefs for internal use, coordinating interdepartmental ideation sessions and securing cross-departmental buy-in and excitement to execute.
    • Manage the process as developers build robust programming that leverages deep business insights to align with client objectives, communicate relevant brand attributes, and engage target markets while driving measurable and impactful results for partners that enhances the fan experience and maximizes revenue for the company.
    • Assist the business analyst in identifying and providing meaningful, relevant data to prospects and partners in a manner that supports the core value proposition, connects data points that measure partnership effectiveness with deeper insight and program strategy and tells the story of how effective partnership can/is working.
    • Provide leadership on the use of resources, including CRM software, audience and fan segmentation, lead generation and prospecting tools, sponsor impact studies, social media reporting, etc.
    • Serve as a best practice resource and leader of innovation in the partnership space.
    • Build case studies from successful internal platforms and programs for use in future sales opportunities in coordination with relevant account team.
    • Act as host to visiting marketing partners at a variety of events.
    • Maintain office organization and other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or related discipline and/or equivalent work experience in the sports marketing, advertising, and/or events industries.
    • At least five (5) years of experience with proven track record of meeting and exceeding revenue goals in sports / brand marketing (agency experience a plus).
    • Possess high-level business development experience and a proven record of accomplishment driving revenue in the sports marketing, advertising, and/or events industries, as well as experience working cross-functionally to secure buy-in from multiple internal departments on programming opportunities.
    • Experience leading, mentoring and coaching high-achieving partnership sales teams to meet and exceed their personal business goals.
    • Demonstrated skill in synthesizing data into meaningful insights for persuasive storytelling purposes.
    • High level of business acumen, creative problem solving abilities, and professionalism.
    • Strong presentation skills and experience creating and delivering executive-level presentations.
    • Demonstrated organizational and logistics management capabilities.
    • Experience using CRM and MS Office software; graphic design software (i.e., Photoshop) capability a plus.
    • Capacity to work a varied schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, as well as multi-task in a fast-paced environment and willingness to travel.
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), relationship-building abilities, and attention to detail.
