The Opportunity

The Manager of Live Entertainment will assist in, and be responsible for the conception, development, production, and management of all Grizzlies and Hustle game nights and related events with a goal of creating a unique, entertaining, and fan-friendly event experience. 

 

The Manager will act as the primary Grizzlies game producer/director for all home games and lead the department’s efforts from a facility, technical, and broadcast needs while developing creative storylines and entertainment options to enhance the in-arena experience, execute partner activations, and support all Grizzlies, Hustle and FedExForum event sales needs, while overseeing the Memphis Hustle game night experience.

In This Role You Will

Live Entertainment 

  • Manage and direct game day event staff including: PA announcer, dance teams, mascot, sound operator, stage managers, on-court entertainment, video operators, etc. Serve as primary game day producer/director for all Grizzlies home games and oversee / manage Memphis Hustle game day experiences.
  • Manages the development and coordination of all in-game elements including, but not limited to, talent bookings, acts for halftimes, in-arena promotions, videos, pre and post-game activities, anthems, mascot, dance team, game staff etc. Administer all entertainer contracts.
  • Liaise with arena and broadcast staff to ensure all Grizzlies facility needs are met, including basketball configuration set-up, event staffing deployment and briefing, back of house room allocation and set-up, scoreboard operations, etc.
  • Work with marketing department for graphic creation to support in-arena visual assets for multiple departments including sales, partnership activation, community etc.
  • Train and supervise floor directors for Grizzlies home games and producer/floor director for Hustle games. Identify and train secondary producer for Grizzlies games.
  • Oversee game day event script and rundown for Grizzlies and Hustle. Conduct production meetings.
  • Work with Director of Live Entertainment and with Corporate Partnership and Ticket Sales & Service to create, implement and fulfil in-game promotions for Grizzlies, Hustle & non-basketball events.
  • Work with digital and content teams to integrate game presentation with grizzlies.com, mobile app, social feeds etc., i.e. stream video of entertainment, promote upcoming acts and features, in-game voting promotions, etc.
  • Create, execute, and develop ideas for entertainment and activation elements including crowd interactives, media day programming, mascot skits, sponsorship activations, in-game videos, theme night integrations and more.   
  • Assist with the hiring, coaching, mentoring and supervisory practices of Live Entertainment staff. 

Promotions 

  • Support Promotions, Event and Regional Marketing to create and develop promotional calendar. Assist in the planning, development, and execution of a marketing strategy to each promotional initiative.
  • Assist as needed with administering of our promotional giveaway program in-arena, including the selection, sourcing, pricing and distribution of all giveaway items for Grizzlies and Hustle games. 

Events 

  • Work with and support Promotions, Events and Regional Marketing team to plan, manage and execute in-arena and out-of-arena special events, including sales, promotions, community initiatives, Foundation events, Draft Party, MVP Party, Sponsor events, player appearances, media events, open practice, state of franchise, etc.
  • Oversee and direct efforts in developing and executing event marketing strategies for Hustle in an effort to increase sales, viewership, digital data acquisition and build the brand,
  • Other related duties as required.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, marketing, communications or other related field.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years full-time experience as in-venue sporting event producer and director.
  • Experience managing talent and production personnel.
  • Familiarity with current entertainment trends, music, developments, and acts.
  • Understanding of sponsorship sales and benefit implementation.
  • Ability to effectively manage dotted line/informal relationships with an ability to interact professionally with internal and external clients at all levels within the organization.
  • Extremely detail oriented with exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Creative, idea-oriented, and thrive in collaborative team-based environment.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Position may require minimal travel.
  • Highly organized with excellent administrative and time management skills.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced, high intensity environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Wrike and Shoflo a plus.
  • Knowledge and passion for NBA basketball, including a strong appreciation for the fan experience.
