The Opportunity

The Memphis Grizzlies Foundation exists to foster conditions that lead to accelerated student achievement, ensuring that the rising generation is equipped with the skills needed to compete in the current and future economies. To that end, our mission is to find, fund, create, and connect best in class youth mentoring/development programs in the Mid-South region. MENTOR Memphis Grizzlies (MMG) serves as a clearinghouse for training, resources, awareness, and advocacy, providing the critical link between MENTOR’s national efforts and local organizations and programs that foster and support quality mentoring relationships. The Coordinator will support youth mentoring programs in implementing research-based best practices known as the Elements of Effective Practice in Mentoring, connect youth programs and organizations to community resources, and plan engagement opportunities that support the mentor/mentee relationships and highlight the MMG impact. The Coordinator will assess and improve MMG network engagement to ensure the programming offered is responsive to the needs of all stakeholders serving the youth living in the Mid-South.

 

The successful candidate will serve as an articulate and passionate champion for the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation and MENTOR Memphis Grizzlies both internally and externally, with charitable and business partners, media, fans and community members, advocating for the advancement of youth mentoring and education, awareness and engagement in the team's initiatives. The Coordinator II will maintain community engagement efforts including supporting affiliates’ program initiatives and service partnerships, as well as being responsible for implementing program communication & marketing efforts.

In This Role You Will

  • Coordinate MMG’s elements including (a) affiliate organizations’ onboarding (b) youth mentor program support through training, (c) create and implement TEAMmates events, (d) ongoing expansion strategy, (e) program training support, (f) communication with program leaders, volunteer mentors, and other community partners;
  • Manage Youth Advisory Council (application, outreach, interviews, planning schedule of meetings and activities);
  • Develop and maintain relationships with affiliate organizations and their mentor program leads by facilitating National Quality Mentoring System training and encouraging frequent interaction and engagement in MMG’s offerings;
  • Oversee program newsletter, monthly calendar, and all other program communication;
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of best practices in mentoring and positive youth development to assist with program development and facilitation while creating innovative practices for existing program activities, ensuring alignment to The Elements of Effective Practice.
  • Plan TEAMmates events for mentor/mentee pairs and organization staff;
  • Serve as the point of contact for National Mentoring Month activations including: Mentoring Night, MLK Day Recruitment Fair, and Mentoring Awards ceremony;
  • Build the MMG storytelling through experiences of mentor/mentee pairs, support and growth of mentor programs and their organizations, and highlighting the efforts to increase program effectiveness;
  • Coordinate content with Foundation social media team to ensure TEAM Mentor stories are told;
  • Assist with the recruitment and new mentor training of adult volunteers;
  • Provide support and guidance for new trainings and experiences based on survey and program feedback;
  • Provide support and guidance to new staff members, including onboarding and training;
  • Establish regular feedback mechanisms with Director, VPs, and other stakeholders to discuss program successes, challenges, and areas for improvement;
  • Create and establish innovative partnerships with establishments across the City of Memphis for enhanced experiences for TEAMmates;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Communications, Business Administration, Sports Management or related field.
  • Minimum (2) years experience working in volunteer or program management, or related position which included creating and conducting training sessions, leveraging technology to advance execution of strategy, programs and partnerships, and acquiring knowledge and experiences related to youth development, youth mentoring, education reform, or community development;
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to interact effectively with all types of people, including staff and management, school and community partners, professional and elite athletes, members of the media, senior government officials and corporate representatives;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and public speaking skills;
  • Excellent organizational, strategic and analytical skills;
  • High level of integrity and emotional intelligence;
  • Experience facilitating multi-faceted projects and strategy;
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with and influence others and the ability to work in a team environment;
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and the internet;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as required;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced/complex organization;
  • Resilient and able to adapt to challenges associated with change;
  • Valid Driver License and reliable transportation to travel between program sites and Foundation office.

 

Nice to Have:

  • MBA or advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Experience working within corporate social responsibility, community relations, philanthropy, cause-marketing, nonprofit management and / or with a board of directors preferred.
