The Opportunity

Public Safety Officers at FedExForum and with the Memphis Grizzlies are dedicated to delivering exceptional frontline customer service while ensuring the safety and security of all guests and employees. Their responsibilities include welcoming and assisting guests, protecting individuals and property throughout the venue, responding to special requests, and proactively resolving issues during events.

In This Role You Will

  • Greet all guests upon arrival, ensuring a positive first impression and adherence to hospitality standards.
  • Maintain a designated post during events, ensuring guest care and the safety of the facility within the assigned area.
  • Become familiar with the layout of FedExForum and assist guests by directing them to appropriate areas as needed.
  • Foster positive guest relations by delivering consistent, high-quality service to all arena visitors.
  • Monitor seating areas by assisting with seat locations, identifying unauthorized seat usage, and addressing guest concerns promptly and courteously.
  • Respond professionally to inquiries, suggestions, and concerns from supervisors and guests.
  • Immediately report any issues or concerns to the Arena Security Director, Event Security Manager, other designated leadership and follow up as directed.
  • Provide a shift-end report to the Guest Relations Supervisor, ensuring all issues are resolved or forwarded to the appropriate authority.
  • Collaborate with Public Safety, Event Security, and Team Security to maintain a safe environment for guests, staff, and property.
  • Support Guest Relations and Event Security staff in enforcing facility rules and standards.
  • Assist in the enforcement of alcohol management policies in accordance with venue guidelines.
  • Assist with guest ejections when authorized by the Executive-in-Charge.
  • Understand and support the implementation of emergency procedures and the facility’s disaster response plan.
  • Assist in managing unauthorized vendors, scalpers, and panhandlers as directed by FedExForum.
  • Make arrests in accordance with federal, state, county, and city laws, in consultation with the Executive-in-Charge.
  • Support enforcement of the FedExForum Authorization of Agency list.
  • Notify the Arena Security Director/Manager or Public Safety leadership of any changes in duty status with the officer’s respective agency, including suspensions, non-enforcement, on-the-job injuries, limited duty, and illness.
  • Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor at all times.
  • Comply with dress and grooming standards set by the Memphis Grizzlies, FedExForum, and the officer’s respective agency for each event.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a certified peace officer in the State of Tennessee with a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
  • Must be currently employed and in good standing as a commissioned officer or deputy with one of the following agencies:
    • City of Memphis Police Department
    • Bartlett Police Department
    • Collierville Police Department
    • Germantown Police Department
    • Shelby County Sheriff’s Office
  • Must have approval for secondary/off-duty employment from their respective agency.
  • Must be available to work shifts starting as early as 8:00 AM and ending as late as 1:00 AM.
  • Must hold current certification in CPR and First Aid from the American Red Cross or an equivalent provider.
  • Must be willing to sign a waiver authorizing access to disciplinary history as part of the employment screening process.
  • Able to respond decisively and efficiently in high-pressure emergency situations under management direction
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a confident and professional presence
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset and a people-first approach
  • Maintains a courteous and respectful demeanor when engaging with colleagues, patrons, clients, and VIPs
  • Brings a high level of energy, self-motivation, and a solution-driven attitude while showing maturity and tact in all situations

Physical/Cognitive Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds as needed.
  • Must be able to move throughout the facility, including navigating stairs and elevators.
  • Must possess adequate visual acuity, including close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work in varied environments, including elevated areas, darkened spaces, crowded conditions, and exposure to loud noise and flashing lights.
  • Must be capable of continuous physical activity, including stretching, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
