The Opportunity

The Carpentry & Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the structural integrity and aesthetic quality of FedExForum. This position is responsible for performing skilled carpentry, painting, and general maintenance tasks to support daily operations and event readiness. The ideal candidate will demonstrate craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and service excellence. This role collaborates closely with internal departments and external contractors to uphold the standards of the Memphis Grizzlies and FedExForum.

In This Role You Will

  • Fabricate a variety of structures—including steps, walls, decks, platforms, and temporary supports—in compliance with applicable building codes and safety standards.
  • Support event operations by working in alignment with the engineering team’s schedule to ensure timely and effective execution.
  • Repair and replace various types of hardware throughout the facility to maintain functionality and safety.
  • Serve as a resource and provide support to Engineering staff during event preparation and execution.
  • Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, floors, doors, building framework, and trim using a wide range of hand and power tools.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks within the Engineering Department, including light bulb replacement, ceiling tile and grid installation, ceramic tile repairs, caulking, sheetrock repairs, vinyl repairs, and painting.
  • Repair and maintain operating equipment and machinery as needed to support facility operations.
  • Conduct planned maintenance on various types of equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Recommend cost-saving measures, assist with purchasing, and help maintain inventory control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety protocols, and applicable building codes.
  • Assist with painting projects to maintain the facility’s appearance and functionality.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support cross-functional initiatives and adapt to dynamic event-driven work environments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of Arena Operations.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of experience in fabricating various structures (steps, walls, decks, platforms, temporary supports, etc.).
  • Knowledge and able to use most hand and power tools, including but not limited to circular saw, table saw, rotors, planners, various nail guns, etc.
  • Ability to and knowledge of painting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with good coordinating and project management skills.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Dynamic, hard-working, confident.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays, and events, as required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Capable of climbing ladders and working at heights.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Tolerance for working in varying environmental conditions (e.g., noise, dust, temperature changes).
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols.

 

Nice to Have:

 

  • Experience with MIG/GMAW welding.
  • Knowledge of sports and entertainment, specifically NBA basketball.
